Smoke Advisory Issued For Navajo Nation Residents Near Wildfire

Navajo Region Fire and Aviation Management

Navajo Nation health officials have issued a smoke advisory for communities close to a 9,000-acre wildfire near Ganado.

The Wood Springs Two Fire is producing smoke that’s affecting Wood Springs, Fluted Springs, and Sawmill and other areas to the northeast of the fire. Officials urge residents, especially young children, the elderly and those with respiratory or heart conditions, to minimize their time outdoors.

The tribe says those exposed to smoke may be at a higher risk to contract COVID-19, and it could cause more severe symptoms in those already infected. Crews haven’t reported any containment of the lightning-caused fire. Some area communities have been given pre-evacuation orders.
