Phoenix Sees COVID-19 Testing Shortage As Statewide Surge Continues
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego is pointing to what she calls a crisis involving coronavirus testing shortages due to surging cases in Arizona.
The state leads the U.S. in new cases per capita. Gallego says some residents over the weekend had to line up for eight hours by car to receive a test. Gallego told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that Arizona went from “zero to 60” by being one of the first states to reopen after it was among the last to implement stay-at-home orders.
State health officials Sunday reported more than 3,500 new cases and four more deaths bringing Arizona’s total COVID-19 cases to more than 98,000.
