Locket Meadow Closed To Vehicles For Restoration Project

USFS

Coconino National Forest officials say Lockett Meadow and the road that accesses the area will be closed until next Thursday to motorized vehicles because of logging activity.

Crews will haul logs from the popular meadow on the east side of the San Francisco Peaks as part of a restoration project that aims to remove tree encroachment, restore hydrologic processes, improve wildlife habitat and increase the abundance of grasses and forbs. Through the project, about 100 cords of firewood will eventually be transported to Hopi and Navajo communities for home heating and cooking. The closure starts Wednesday and Forest Road 552, local trails and the meadow will stay open to cycling and pedestrian traffic.
