Leaders on the Navajo Nation say mask requirements and weekend lockdowns are helping flatten the curve of new coronavirus cases.
President Jonathan Nez says areas near the reservation have seen a recent uptick in infections and he’s urging residents not to let up.
"Our goal is to have zero new cases, but the reality is that there is no vaccine so we will likely see new cases every day," said Nez in a press release. "We have to everything we can to keep the numbers of cases low. Wear your masks, stay home as much as possible, practice social distancing, wash your hands often, and avoid large gatherings."
The tribe reported seven more deaths from the disease Monday and 25 new cases. Total fatalities on the Navajo Nation have reached 422 since the pandemic began with almost 8,600 total cases. About three-quarters have recovered.
