Two confederate monuments on Arizona state property will be removed. Governor Doug Ducey's administration announced Wednesday that the United Daughters of the Confederacy has requested that the state return the two monuments previously donated by the group.
The monuments are located at the state Capitol and along U.S. Highway 60 in Gold Canyon. United Daughters of the Confederacy leaders say it would be unwise to repair them where they sit “during the current political climate.” At least 63 other Confederate statues, monuments or markers have been removed from public land across the country since George Floyd's death put a renewed spotlight on racial injustice.
