Navajo Nation officials say they’ll shorten this weekend’s reservation-wide lockdown to 32 hours.
It’ll begin Saturday at 9 p.m. and lift Monday at 5 a.m. The daily curfew will also be shortened from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The tribe had put 57-hour curfews in place months ago to slow the spread of coronavirus. President Jonathan Nez says the tribe will continue to put measures in place to flatten cases as long as there is no vaccine for the virus.
The tribe Tuesday reported 17 new cases and one additional death attributed to coronavirus. In total, the Navajo Nation has confirmed 463 people have died and more than 9,100 have been infected since the pandemic began. Nearly three-quarters have recovered.
