Dine' Woman To Become Kansas' Youngest Sitting Legislator

Christina Haswood

A 26-year-old Dine’ woman will become Kansas’ youngest sitting legislator. Christina Haswood is a member of the Navajo Nation and a first-time candidate.

Haswood has degrees in public health from Haskell Indian Nations University and Arizona State University, and a master’s degree in public health management from the Kansas University Medical Center. She currently works as a research assistant with the National Council of Urban Indian Health and the Center for American Indian Community Health, studying tribal youth nicotine addiction and the impact of COVID-19 on Native populations. That’s according to the Lawrence Journal-World. All four Native candidates running for office in Kansas won their primary elections this week.
