City Of PHX Will Pay Settlement To Couple In Excessive Force Case

AP

The Phoenix City Council will pay a nearly half-million-dollar settlement to a black couple who were threatened by police after their 4-year-old daughter took a doll from a store without their knowledge.

Iesha Harper and Dravon Ames initially made a 10-million-dollar excessive force claim against the city last year following the incident. Videos posted on social media of the officers pointing guns and cursing at the couple in front of their young children received widespread attention. It comes during a national reckoning over racism and police brutality.
