AP Fact Check Shows Trump Made False Claims About Military Award And McCain's Service Record

An AP Fact Check finds that President Donald Trump is claiming to receive an award from military veterans that didn’t exist and is also falsely denigrating the record of the late Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain on veterans affairs.

Yesterday’s fact check reveals that Trump says he got an endorsement and an award from the Bay of Pigs Veterans Association in 2016. While he did get an endorsement, there was no official award at the time. On McCain, Trump is ignoring the senator's successes on behalf of fellow veterans, including passing a VA Choice program that Trump frequently claims as his own achievement.
