Wildfire On Tonto NF Grows to 12,400 Acres, Burns 4 Homes

USFS

A wildfire north of Phoenix has grown to nearly 12,500 acres and officials report zero containment.

The Sears Fire has also destroyed several structures, including four homes. The blaze was first reported Friday afternoon on the Tonto National Forest. It’s burning in grass and brush and wind gusts today are providing a challenge to firefighters.

Several second homes appear to be in the area. Crews continue to set backfires to help protect structures and other assets near Cave Creek. The fire’s cause is under investigation. Fire restrictions remain in effect on the Tonto.
