Roberta McCain, mother of the late Arizona Republican Senator John McCain, has died at the age of 108.

Her daughter-in-law Cindy McCain made the announcement today on social media.  McCain said she “couldn’t have asked for a better role model or a better friend” than her late mother-in-law. Roberta McCain was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1912. In 1933, she defied her family by eloping with John “Jack” McCain Jr. in Tijuana, Mexico. They had three children together. At the age of 96, Roberta went on the cross country campaign trail with her son John during his run for president in 2008. He died in 2018 of brain cancer.
