Footage Released Of Officer-Involved Shooting In Lake Havasu City

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has released body camera footage of an officer-involved shooting that unfolded in early December. The shooting left one person critically injured and two Lake Havasu City Police officers on administrative leave.

The recently published footage shows 29-year-old Jon Steven Douglas attempting to run from two officers through a craft supply store in Lake Havasu City. One officer appears to restrain Douglas while the other discharges his weapon, shooting Douglas in the abdomen. The latter, Sergeant Brian Jacobs, has worked for the Lake Havasu City Police Department for 13 years, according to Mohave County officials.

Authorities concluded Douglas was unarmed at the time of the incident.

Investigators say the officers had recognized Douglas as someone with multiple outstanding felony warrants, including traffic offenses and a probation violation. The 29-year-old was cited for reckless driving, refusal to obey officers, and unlawful flight of a law enforcement vehicle earlier in the year, according to Mohave County Officials.

Douglas was hospitalized before being transferred to a detention facility. He has since been released on bond, according to public records.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's officials, who are conducting the inspection of the Lake Havasu City Police Department. "It is protocol to have an outside agency investigate an officer-involved shooting incident," the Mohave County Sheriff's Office wrote in a statement.
