The Arizona Game and Fish Department next week will continue an effort to bolster the state’s declining pronghorn population by lethally removing coyotes.
According to officials, the department will conduct aerial killings of the animals between Kingman and Seligman through May in an effort to improve fawn survival and prevent predation.
Arizona pronghorn numbers have dropped since 2015, and they’ve struggled because of drought, habitat loss, road building and fencing. Game and Fish calls the project a “short-term effort” to assist herds that are in trouble.
