Interior Secretary Steps Into Utah Public Lands Tug-Of-War

U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland is visiting Utah today before submitting a review on the national monuments in the state.

Residents there have both staunchly supported and rallied against establishing and increasing the size of Bears Ear and Grand Staircase-Escalante.

Haaland is the latest Interior secretary tasked with making recommendations on where the boundaries should lie. She’s expected to submit a report to President Joe Biden after she meets with tribes and elected leaders at Bears Ears.

The Trump administration downsized both monuments in 2017.
