Road Equipment Caused Bagdad Fire, But Crew Not Negligent

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office

Yavapai County Sheriff’s officials say road construction equipment ignited a fast-moving wildfire in the small mining town of Bagdad last week west of Prescott.

It prompted evacuations and eventually more than a two dozen homes were burned or damaged before firefighters contained it. According to the county, an investigation found that the 150-acre Spur Fire was accidental.

The road project had been planned and approved, and officials say no negligence or recklessness was found in the crew’s actions and no criminal charges will be filed.
