TELEGRAPH FIRE
The Telegraph Fire burning in south-central Arizona has prompted the evacuation of two rural communities. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office today called for the evacuation of some 60 households in the Dripping Springs and El Capitan communities. The American Red Cross has shelters at High Desert Middle School in Globe and at Skyline High School in Mesa. Fire officials say lines are holding around a majority of the fire, which is at 74% containment. The blaze, which was human-caused, was first reported June 4 less than 2 miles southeast of Superior. It has burned more than 137.5 square miles and destroyed 22 structures.
CORNVILLE FIRE
Meanwhile, evacuation orders have been lifted for a fire burning a few miles east of Cornville in northern Arizona. An estimated 600 people were initially told to evacuate, according to a spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. The Cornville Fire, which was first reported Sunday morning, led to an evacuation area from east of Page Springs Road between Windmill Lane and the Oak Creek Vineyards, officials said. It’s grown to more than 1,200 acres.
SLATE FIRE
The Slate Fire northwest of Flagstaff has grown to nearly 11,000 acres with 23% containment, according to officials with the Coconino National Forest. About 140 personnel are working the blaze. A 13-mile stretch of Route 180 remains closed indefinitely.
