Republican Gov. Doug Ducey has signed a $100 million bipartisan wildfire relief package into law.
The signing comes after the governor called a special session of the Arizona Legislature this week to address the growing wildfire threat in the state. The relief bill is designed to support firefighters as they battle wildfires and help local communities recover from post-fire flooding and other fire impacts.
Several wildfires are currently burning in Arizona including the Telegraph Fire, which has become the sixth largest in state history at more than 173,000 acres.
So far this year, more than 900 wildfires have burned over 245,000 acres in the state. Earlier this month, Ducey issued two emergency declarations in response to the fires directing $400,000 in federal funds available for response efforts.
