Navajo Nation Implements Stage II Fire Restrictions

The Navajo Nation today finalized an executive order Friday implementing Stage II Fire Restrictions, effective immediately.

The order prohibits all wood burning, including campfires, charcoal fires and barbecues. It also bans debris and field burning, fireworks, discharging of a firearm except while engaged in a lawful hunt, welding, and the use of chainsaws or other combustion engines between the hours of 1 and 7 p.m. Violators could face fines of up to 5,000 dollars. President Jonathan Nez in a statement today said the Navajo Nation has already experienced several fires this year that have threatened homes, farms and wildlife. Nez says he will also issue a drought declaration in order to make more resources available for communities.
