The city of Flagstaff will once again require masks be worn in city facilities due to an increase in COVID-19 community transmission.

The change will go into effect tomorrow (Friday, July 30th) at 6 a.m.. In a news release today, city officials say the new requirement aligns with new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that fully vaccinated people wear masks indoors in public spaces in areas of substantial or high transmission. The CDC has designated Coconino County as an area with “substantial transmission.” The new requirement applies only to city facilities and not private businesses or establishments, which still have the ability to require masks inside their buildings. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.

Other Arizona cities are also going back to mask requirements in official buildings, including Tucson, Phoenix, Peoria and Tempe. Governor Doug Ducey maintains his position against mandating masks in public, instead advocating for vaccination.
