Oregon Man Falls To His Death While On Grand Canyon River Trip

Officials at Grand Canyon National Park say rangers have recovered the body of an Oregon man who fell to his death while on a Colorado River trip over the weekend.

Park dispatch received a call Saturday afternoon that David Colburn fell about 50 feet while hiking in the Deer Creek Narrows.

Other members of the non-commercial trip couldn’t find him and park rescue teams that were flown in had to delay their search until the next day because of the rough terrain, darkness and safety concerns. They found Colburn’s body yesterday and flew it out via helicopter to the South Rim.

An investigation is being conducted by the Park Service and Coconino County Medical Examiner.
