The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for the entirety of northern Arizona, set to expire Wednesday night. Chances for rain are expected to reach 46% today at 5 p.m. in Flagstaff, according to NWS data released Wednesday morning.
In response, the Navajo Nation Department of Emergency Management issued a weather warning to residents, particularly for Wednesday as rainfall sweeps eastward into Navajo and Apache counties. Chances for precipitation are at their highest in Chinle and Window Rock this morning, around 9 and 10 a.m., forecast to decrease as the day progresses, according to NWS data Wednesday morning.
It comes as Navajo Division of Transportation personnel continue to repair roads damaged by rainfall in July, President Jonathan Nez said in a statement Tuesday.
The NWS cautioned the public to avoid slot canyons and creeks, and to remain aware of high risk levels near burn scars. Coconino County officials encouraged residents near the Museum Fire Burn Scar to take extra precautionary measures.
