Early winter storm brings first heavy snowfall to West, Rocky Mountains

An early winter storm is forecast to bring the first heavy snowfall of the season to portions of the U.S. Rocky Mountains this week. The National Weather Service on Monday issued winter storm warnings for large areas of Wyoming and southern Montana. The warnings are in effect through midday Wednesday. Up to 14 inches of snow is expected around Red Lodge, Montana and Sheridan, Wyoming, with temperatures well below freezing. Winter weather advisories were issued for portions of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada and Utah. In northern Arizona, snow showers will continue into mid-morning Tuesday for the Flagstaff region, with flurries through the day in far northern Arizona. Cold and blustery conditions expected with a hard freeze tonight for much of the region.
