Arizona health officials Tuesday reported unusually high numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths as the state’s dashboard caught up on some pandemic metrics after a two-day hiatus for a system update.

After releasing no reports Sunday or Monday, the Department of Health Services says 5,660 new known cases were reported and 174 more deaths. Virus hospitalizations also toped 1,700 for the first time in five days.

More than 68% of eligible people have now received at least one shot of COVID vaccine and about 51% of the state’s population are fully vaccinated.
