Kaibab National Forest Supervisor Heather Provencio will step down from her role Friday. She’s accepted a new position as special assistant to the Southwest regional forester.

According to forest officials, Provencio will lead infrastructure bill implementation and regional strategic planning.

She joined the Kaibab in 2015 and focused on forest health and reintroducing fire on Bill Williams Mountain and others areas on the forest.

A permanent replacement will be confirmed early next year. Deputy Supervisor Diane Taliaferro from the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire will serve as acting Kaibab Supervisor in the interim. She previously worked for a decade in the Southwest.
