A 12-year-old skateboarder died Sunday afternoon in the Kachina Village neighborhood south of Flagstaff after he was hit by a car.

The crash happened at the main intersection of Kachina Trail and Canyon Loop. First responders found the boy in the street with severe injuries. They tried to treat him but he died on the scene, according to law enforcement.

The driver of the car cooperated with police and stayed at the scene of the accident. Investigators did not immediately suspect DUI but are awaiting a toxicology report.

The child’s identity has not yet been publicly released. The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and the Coconino County medical examiner’s office are conducting an investigation.
