In this undated photo released by the Maricopa County Jail shows Essa Kolareh Eugene Williams, a suspect accused of shooting and seriously wounding a Phoenix police officer on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021. Williams had served prison time for armed robbery and continued shooting at the officer after he was already on the ground at an apartment complex parking lot, a prosecutor said.

A prosecutor says a man who served prison terms on convictions for armed robbery and other felonies repeatedly shot a Phoenix police officer and continued firing even after the officer was on the ground.

A police probable-cause statement says Officer Tyler Moldovan is on life support.

The prosecutor made the statement during a Tuesday evening hearing that resulted in a judge setting bond for Essa Koloreh Eugene Williams at $3 million.

Police said other officers arrested Williams at the apartment complex Moldovan was critically wounded.

No attorney for Williams participated in the hearing and court records don’t list one who could speak on his behalf.
