Deer Valley ski patrol and lift operators work to rescue stranded skiers on the Carpenter Express chairlift after it stopped working on December 24, 2021.

More than 100 people were rescued from a broken chairlift Christmas Eve at a popular ski resort in Park City, Utah.

Officials at Dear Valley say 167 skiers and snowboarders were stranded for several hours when the Carpenter Express chairlift experienced a mechanical failure Friday afternoon.

Mountain operations staff implemented lift evacuation procedures and successfully got everyone down safely before dinnertime.

Videos posted to social media show rescuers using ropes to help lower stranded skiers and snowboarders down to the ground.
