Hiker found dead in canyon

Flagstaff, AZ – A young man has died while hiking a remote trail in the Grand Canyon. The National Park Service says a river trip was flagged down yesterday by a group of hikers stranded near Silver Grotto. They said one of the hikers in their party had died about a mile up Shinumo Wash. The Park Service flew a helicopter to the scene where rangers found the deceased, an 18 year old Native American male. His name is being withheld for positive identification and notification of next of kin. The National Park Service and the Navajo Nation will conduct a joint investigation of the incident.
