Hurricane Melissa hits Jamaica

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as the strongest storm to hit the island.  The National Hurricane Center says its maximum sustained winds are 185 miles per hour.

NPR international correspondent Eyder Peralta is following the storm from Mexico City.
