Amber Alert Cancelled, Missing Siblings Found Safe

Navajo Police Department

An Amber Alert has been cancelled concerning four missing children on the Navajo Nation.

The siblings, who ranged from 2 to 10 years old, were found safe and unharmed Thursday evening, according to a Navajo Police Department spokesperson.

The alert went into effect Thursday afternoon after authorities say the children’s father, Rumaldo Peshlakai, fled with the four siblings in Tsayatoh, New Mexico. The NPD reports Peshlakai made statements implying he might harm the children.

Police last night said Peshlakai ultimately informed law enforcement of the children’s location; they were recovered safely after a multiagency search. As of Thursday evening, Peshlakai has not been found, according to the NPD.

Several tribal agencies participated in the search, along with New Mexico State Police, the McKinley County Sheriff's Office and the FBI, according to tribal officials.

Authorities previously described Peshlakai as 5-foot-9, weighing 210 pounds, and bald with a goatee.
