AZ COVID-19 Cases, Hospitalizations, Deaths Continue To Rise

Arizona's case load and death toll from COVID-19 continues to rise. Figures posted Sunday by the State Department of Health show nearly 1,300 newly confirmed cases and 3 additional deaths. 

The total number of known deaths for the state is approaching 1,200, with nearly 36,000 confirmed cases. Two weeks ago, there were just over 20,000 confirmed cases and 900 known deaths. 

The department reports nearly 1,500 people were hospitalized for coronavirus as of Saturday, the 13th straight day with at least 1,000 hospitalizations related to the virus. Department officials say the state's hospitals are 84% full, above the elective surgery cutoff level. 

The Navajo Department of Health reports 57 new cases and 3 more known deaths as of Sunday. The total number of known deaths on teh Navajo Nation is 311. Reports from 11 health care facilities indicate more than 3,000 people have recovered from COVID-19, with more reports still pending.
