Citing Safety Concerns, Group Drops Ducey Recall Effort

azgov

A nonpartisan group has dropped a petition to recall Arizona Governor Doug Ducey over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

Accountable Arizona cites safety reasons for suspending its effort, saying it’s “impossible” to safely gather signatures. In a statement, the organization says the current infection rate in Arizona has made volunteers uncomfortable about continuing their work. The group’s recall campaign argued that Governor Ducey failed to do more to prevent the spread of the virus. A separate but also unsuccessful recall effort in May accused Ducey of overstepping his constitutional authority in issuing a stay-at-home order.
