Coconino And Kaibab National Forests Raise Fire Restrictions

Jun 9, 2020

Officials with the Coconino and Kaibab national forests will begin Stage II fire restrictions Sat, June 13 as wildfire danger increases throughout the region.

It bans campfires and all open flames including charcoal and wood stoves and curtails outdoor smoking. The restrictions also prohibit tools that create flames and limit the use of internal combustion equipment.

Officials say dry conditions, high winds and increasing temperatures are creating potentially dangerous fire conditions and the potential for human-caused fires needs to be reduced.

In addition, the Kaibab will close Bill Williams Mountain because of the high likelihood of severe file and post-fire flooding there. The Prescott National Forest began Stage II restrictions last month.
