Coconino County Officials Assess Flooding Damage In East Flagstaff

Coconino County flood control officials have assessed damage from Tuesday's flooding in east Flagstaff.

Of nearly 60 homes on Grandview Avenue that were part of the inspection three suffered impacts to the interior and one home experienced garage and interior flooding. County and city crews are working to clear debris from channels as more monsoon rains are expected throughout the week.

Officials are asking residents not to park in flood-prone streets and to clear debris from under their engines if they have parked in the street during a flood. Pre-filled sandbags are available to residents at Coconino County Health and Human Services. A Museum Flood Area call center has also been set up at (928) 679-8525.

Meanwhile, Coconino National Forest officials have closed Elden Lookout Road in Flagstaff to motor vehicles following post-fire flooding Tuesday. An inch or more of rain fell over the 2019 Museum Fire scar funneling water through drainages near the Lower Oldham and other area trails. Officials say falling rocks and trees along with flash flooding could trap vehicles and injure motorists. They say they’ll keep Elden Lookout closed at least through monsoon season and possibly beyond depending on road damage.
