Coconino High School in Flagstaff will recognize all local seniors who are part of the 2020 high school graduating class for the next 20 days by turning on the lights at its Cromer Field.
It begins at 8:20 p.m. Monday, or 20:20 military time, and the lights will remain illuminated for 20 minutes each night. It’s part of a national movement for high schools to honor the class of 2020.
“We want a way to recognize our seniors while still following CDC recommended social distancing practices,” said Coconino High School Principal Stacie Zanzucchi in a press release. “This is a special time for seniors and we hope that this demonstrates our ongoing commitment to ensure they are recognized for all of their hard work and celebrated for the journey that is still ahead.”
Coconino High will be the only location in Flagstaff taking part in the recognition because of local lighting restrictions.
Prom and graduation ceremonies for all Flagstaff Unified School District high schools are currently on hold because of the coronavirus outbreak. FUSD says it plans to hold the events at later dates.
