Coconino County health officials continue to report a high rate of COVID-19 transmission.
In Coconino County's weekly report issued Friday, 318 new known infections were confirmed during the week of Aug. 8-14. It was more than four times the number recorded during the same week last year. The largest increase in cases was in Williams, which also has the lowest percentage of fully vaccinated people in the county.
About half of Coconino County’s population is now fully vaccinated compared to about 48% statewide.
Meanwhile, Yavapai County also remains in a high level of COVID transmission. Health officials say hospital admissions are increasing and 99% of virus-related hospitalizations are among those who are unvaccinated. According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, less than 40% of Yavapai County’s population is fully inoculated against COVID. Since Monday, the county has recorded 374 new known cases and five deaths from the virus.
The highly contagious delta variant of the virus continues to drive the current surge both locally and nationwide.
