FUSD Announces Plan To Resume School In August

Flagstaff High School

The Flagstaff Unified School District has announced its plan to reopen in August.

Officials are offering students and families three options including in-person instruction with smaller classes. It’ll require staff and students to wear masks at all times and undergo daily health screenings and other measures.

“We understand the concerns of students, families, team members, and the community regarding the rising cases of COVID-19 in our state and communities and the impact on returning to school in-person this fall,” said Flagstaff Unified School District Superintendent Michael Penca in a press release. “This plan should provide more certainty about how FUSD will continue quality learning and support for students while prioritizing student and staff safety … This plan will guide our continued work throughout the summer as we prepare to welcome students back in August.”

Students will also be able to take classes remotely and transition between distance learning and in-person classes, or enroll in online instruction for the entire year. FUSD officials say local and state conditions may require school closures.
