Flagstaff Unified School District officials say students will continue with remote learning through the end of fall break on Oct. 19 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The district’s governing board will review a proposal for phased in-person classes at its Oct. 6 meeting. Students and parents will have the option to stay with or return to virtual learning throughout the 2020/2021 school year.
Officials say they’re basing their decisions on health benchmark. Community spread of COVID-19 is currently in the "substantial" category, and they say all indicators must be "minimal" or "moderate" for in-person classes to resume.
The FUSD board also decided to allow practice to resume for low-risk sports this week, and for contact sports next week. Flagstaff and Coconino high schools will allow spectators at fall athletic events but at 10% capacity.
