In the prerecorded address she called for the nation to end gun violence. The narrated video also told the story of Giffords’ battle to survive following a 2011 shooting in Tucson that left her with limited speaking ability and other injuries.

Eighteen others were shot and six people died in the attack including 9-year-old Christina-Taylor Green and Federal District Court Chief Judge John Roll. The former Congresswoman has since founded the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.

Her husband, Democrat Mark Kelly, is running for U.S. Senate in Arizona against Republican Sen. Martha McSally.
