Gila County Sheriff: Man Arrested In 2 Apparent Killings; Bodies Found After Fire

Authorities in east-central Arizona have arrested an 18-year-old man in the apparent shooting deaths of two adults whose bodies were found Monday following a fire at a Claypool residence.

Gila County Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd said Abram Oropeza of Claypool was taken into custody and then arrested following a traffic stop Monday by the Sheriff’s Office and the state Department of Public Safety.

Shepherd said Oropeza was jailed on suspicion of two counts each of of first-degree murder, arson of an occupied structure and tampering with physical evidence.

The sheriff said victims bodies were discovered after firefighters put out out the fire.

Their identities weren’t released.

Online court records don’t list an attorney for Oropeza who could comment on his behalf.
