Hopi Chairman Timothy Nuvangyaoma is asking the United States Congress to renew a diabetes program that specifically serves Indigenous people in America.
That’s according to a report from Cronkite News. The program is currently active, but it will grind to a halt in December if Congress does not make any effort to revive it. In a recent statement, Nuvangyaoma said the program served more than 17,000 Hopi people in 2019 alone. As of now, the Hopi Special Diabetes Program employs 15 staff members to aid others in fitness, nutrition, and childcare, according to the program’s site.
