Winter Weather Advisory For Flagstaff, Williams, Kaibab Plateau
The National Weather Service is predicting continued snow showersthrough the morning as a storm moves through eastern Arizona. Winter Weather Advisories remains in effect until 11 a.m. for the Kaibab Plateau, including the communities of Fredonia and Jacob Lake along with Williams and Flagstaff. Reduced visibility, sudden accumulation, and slick driving conditions can be expected on area roads. Forecasters reported 3.9 inches of snow accumulation last night at the Flagstaff Pullium Airport.
Yavapai Remains In ‘65 And Older’ Phase, Moves To J&J Vaccine
Yavapai County Community Health Services — along with partner providers and pharmacies — announced new openings to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, some appointments were still available in the county through the Yavapai Regional Medical Center. The county is continuing to vaccinate residents 65 and older among other prioritized groups before expanding age eligibility to residents 55 and older. YCCHS says the Community Health Center of Yavapai will hold a vaccination clinic in Paulden this Friday for individuals to receive the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Healthcare workers across the county and nation are seeking ways to provide the vaccine to underserved and rural communities. Spectrum Healthcare earlier this month launched a partnership with the Verde Valley Caregivers’ Coalition to vaccinate residents within their own homes throughout the county.
Glendale Vaccination Site Surpasses 500,000 Administered Doses
The Glendale State Farm Stadium has now administered more than 500,000 vaccine doses, according to Gov. Doug Ducey’s office. The mass vaccination site hit the milestone on Monday after vaccinating a77-year-old resident of Surprise. The site was established in Jan., 2021 to provide vaccines to Arizonans on a 24/7 basis. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris visited the site last month as a potential model for mass vaccinations. According to the ADHS, the state-sponsored sites in metro Phoenix and Tucson have administered vaccine doses 435,393 people so far. Overall, Arizona health officials report the state has administered more than 2.5 million doses as of Monday.
Banner Health Reports Spike In ‘Sanitizer Incidents’
Banner Health announced Monday the healthcare provider has seen a dramatic increase in harmful exposure to hand sanitizer amid the continuing pandemic. Banner’s Poison and Drug Information center reports a 140% increase in calls about hand sanitizer incidents, which can include ingestion. Banner, the largest healthcare company in the state, attributed the spike to more children attending school at home, and more adults working remotely. Banner’s Poison Center director says hand sanitizers containing methanol are particularly harmful, and can cause blindness, organ failure or death. Methanol hand sanitizers are on the recall list of the Food and Drug Administration.
Coconino County Seeks Applicants For Governing Boards
Coconino County is seeking applicants for governing boards at three different school districts. A county spokesperson announced Friday governing positions are open for application at the Fredonia-Moccasin Unified School District, Maine Consolidated Unified School District, along with the Fredonia-based Coconino Association for Vocations, Industry and Technology. The appointment process may involve an advisory committee including local residents, according to the county. Applications are due April 1.
