Las Vegas Airport Traffic Controller Tests Positive For COVID-19

independent.co.uk

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Las Vegas airport is operating with reduced staff after an air traffic controller tested positive for the coronavirus, temporarily closing the airport’s control tower.

The FAA said airplanes coming into McCarran International Airport Thursday were being guided by other nearby air traffic controllers.

Southwest Airlines, one of the biggest carriers at the Las Vegas airport said Thursday evening it had canceled 230 flights because of the closure.

The FAA said the control tower at Chicago’s Midway Airport also closed for a while on Tuesday after several technicians there tested positive for the new Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak ordered all of the state’s casinos to temporarily close along with non-essential businesses to slow the spread of COVID-19.
