Monsoon Revs-Up Again, Flood Potential Likely

dreamstime.com

Monsoon activity is expected to continue this week across northern Arizona; Coconino County reports more than 65 thousand sandbags remain available for residents ahead of potential storm activity and flood risk. The county estimates more than 80 private properties have sustained interior flood damage so far this monsoon season; rainfall has already far outpaced the 2020 season. Both county and Flagstaff city officials have encouraged residents to consider purchasing flood insurance, in part due to a state law that bars government entities from assisting in private property repairs. A FEMA spokesperson told KNAU last week that the number of purchasers for flood insurance policies statewide declined by about 900 between August 2020 and August 2021.
