Navajo Nation health officials yesterday reported 10 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one additional death.
More than 9,500 people have been infected on the reservation since the pandemic began with nearly 500 deaths. The tribe ended a 32-hour weekend lockdown Monday morning and plans to put another curfew in place Saturday. President Jonathan Nez urged residents to continue practicing safety measures like mask wearing and physical distancing despite a significant flattening of coronavirus cases on the Navajo Nation.
"Keep fighting and don’t let down. There is still a lot that is not known about COVID-19 so we have to keep up our guard. To the men and women on the frontlines, we thank you for your dedication to save lives and treat so many of our people. Please continue to wear a mask, practice social distancing, staying home, and avoiding large crowds,” said Pres. Nez in a press release.
Three-quarters of the people infected on the reservation have recovered.
