Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez says recent data indicates the peak for coronavirus-related hospitalizations on the Reservation occured the week of April 21st, a month earlier than initially projected.
During a live online Townhall yesterday, President Nez said initial projections showed the COVID-19 surge on the Navaion Nation would begin this week, but Nez says the implementation of stay-at-home orders and weekend curfews have helped flatten the curve in certain areas of the Nation in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah.
The Navajo Department of Health Tuesday reported 48 new cases of the virus and one additional death. That pushed the numbers to just over 4,800 known cases and 158 known deaths for the tribe.
Arizona health officials report one new death related to the coronavirus and 200 new cases statewide. That puts the current number of known deaths at 897, with nearly 17,000 confirmed cases for the state. Health officials say the numbers indicate a slight downward trend.
