Navajo Nation Declares "Census Month" To Encourage Participation in 2020 Census

istock.com

The Navajo Nation has declared September “Navajo Nation Census Month.” President Jonathan Nez and Vice President Myron Lizer have signed a proclamation recognizing the declaration and are encouraging Navajo people to participate in the 2020 census to ensure a solid count of all citizens on the Navajo Nation.

President Nez’s Administration is working closely with the Census Area Office to reach as many Navajo elders as possible, especially those in rural areas. The proclamation states, “the Census efforts on the Navajo Nation have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic…and has diverted many resources to ensure the safety and well-being of the Navajo people.”
