New Survey Says 8 in 10 AZ Teachers Think Schools Shouldn't Reopen Unless Safety Is Guaranteed

A recent survey by the Arizona Education Association shows 8 in 10 teachers believe schools should not reopen unless public health experts can confirm it is safe for students and staff.

According to the survey of more than 7,600 teachers, nearly three quarters say they don’t have enough teachers to reopen schools under CDC guidelines and protocol for coronavirus safety. Nearly three quarters of those surveyed also said there is not enough staff and resources for proper cleaning, food service and bus schedules. Nearly 60 percent of the teachers said their school districts were not prepared or ready to open and had not established clear guidelines for social distancing and health screening procedures. Several Phoenix news outlets are reporting that some public school educators are threatening a walk-out unless Governor Doug Ducey can guarantee school safety this fall.
