North Rim Mangum Fire Update

RV Mills

Residents, businesses and campgrounds in the Jacob Lake area remain evacuated as a large wildfire burns near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Nearly 300 people were told to evacuate late Friday night, with two other communities under pre-evacuation notice. U.S. Highway 89A remains closed east of Jacob Lake, along with State Route 67. Officials at Grand Canyon National Park have closed the North Rim to visitors.

The Mangum Fire began last week on the Kaibab National Forest near the North Rim and has grown to nearly 30,000 acres as of Tuesday. It is 3% contained. The cause is under investigation.

Crews will continue to construct fireline today to minimize the Mangum Fire's northward movement and secure the spread near Little Mountain.
