U.K. Coronavirus Variant Detected On Navajo Nation

istock.com

Navajo Nation officials today announced the tribe's first confirmed case of the COVID-19 U.K. variant. Health officials say it’s currently the most dominant variant in the U.S. and has been detected in all 50 states.

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez made the announcement today in a live online town hall. According to the Navajo Department of Health, the person who tested positive for the U.K. variant received the COVID-19 vaccine over one month prior to testing positive and was hospitalized and is now recovering at home. Contact tracing was conducted and no further spread was identified beyond the one individual. In the town hall, President Nez encouraged people to stay calm and vigilant in mitigation efforts to slow the spread of the virus, including mask wearing and vaccination.
